Fall Traditions – Apple Picking

Happy September! One of my favorite fall traditions is going apple picking. I’ve been to so many of the orchards surrounding Chicago it’s a little crazy. Some are great, some are expensive and some are just plain not worth it. We do have a favorite though and that’s what I’m here to share!

For the past three years we’ve gone to County Line Orchard. Located in Hobart, Indiana it’s about an hour drive from Chicago but totally worth it. They have a huge property with an Apple orchard, corn maze, family farm area and all the fall treats you could want!

The pumpkin donut is a must!

The pass to get you access to everything I mentioned was $10 per person when we went, kids 2 and under are free, plus the cost of the apples you pick. The family area has farm animals, tractors for the kids to sit on, face painting and a mini kid maze! Our favorite by far though is the moo choo ride!

After we visit the family area we take a ride out to the Apple orchard and corn maze. They have all kinds of apples and you can check their Facebook page for what’s available that day. Out by the orchard is a corn maze and soybean maze and a sunflower field. Sadly the sunflowers weren’t in bloom when we went but just another reason to go again! 😉

After we picked our apples we headed into the barn where they sell fresh donuts, cider, fudge, candy apples – and the list goes on! With so many orchards to choose from this one ranks high on our list for many reasons. The people that work there are super nice, the prices for everything are reasonable, it’s very kid friendly (bathrooms and changing tables in multiple spots) and everything from the apples to the baked goods are delicious!

So tell me where’s your favorite orchard? If you don’t have one yet check out County Line Orchard!
