How to Personalize a 40th Birthday

These cookies were a hit!

Hi! A couple of weeks ago my husband turned [gasp] 40, and really wanted a party to celebrate! Throwing a party for anyone can be challenging but at least with kids you can pretty much pick out what you want. With a 40 year old man it’s a little tougher. 🙃 Here’s how I made it about him but also kept it cute.

📍Old Irving Brewery

Location: This was by far the hardest task. We did not want to have the party at our house so we began looking locally for venues. We wanted something with private space but not so much so that the vibe wasn’t fun. We sent inquiries to at least 10 places before landing on Old Irving Brewery. They did have a maximum amount of people we could have which limited our guest list to basically immediate families only but that also helped the party not get too big.

I made these shirts myself using the Cricut!

Theme: It may sound silly but still do a theme! It brings focus to the party and makes things so much easier. Since my husband’s birthday is in March we chose St. Patrick’s Day and asked everyone to wear green which was easy to do and made it fun!

My husband loves koozies so I made these for the favor!

Favors: Once we had the location and theme I got to work on the favors. I used the cricut to create a design and iron on for a koozie (above), settled on a design for a custom cookie that I also made (for more tips on how I make the cookies myself click here), and also made a personalized straw with a cut out of my husband’s face on them. While these each took time, it really personalized the event. Making them have me more control over the design and allowed me to do a few things whereas if I had someone else do them it would have been very costly.

Once I had the image I had it printed on card stock and then cut out each one and glued it to a paper straw!

Those are all my tips! Overall it was a great party and I was happy he was pleased with everything!
