I’ve mentioned before that I love makeup but I’m not the best at taking care of my skin. I try a lot of products but don’t seem to stick with anything. Part of the problem is not knowing enough about skincare products to know what they do (or are supposed to do!). With makeup you instantly know if a color is going to work, or if a product will last all day. With skincare do you ever know if it’s really working? In the beginning of the year my skin was super dry and dull and while I thought it could be pregnancy or the winter months, I also felt it might be my skin changing as I got older. I’ve really been interested in finding a skincare routine and finally felt the push to start doing some research.
Here’s how I found the products I know love and have been using consistently for the past two months.
- Pick a brand. Blindly searching for skincare products on the web is overwhelming. Picking a brand narrowed my search significantly. How did I find the right brand for me? Social media of course. I started looking at influencers on instagram that I felt looked like they had similar skin types as mine or just seemed very knowledgable about skincare. After I got a couple of options I went on Sephora and Ulta to look up products and read reviews to find out more and see if others liked the products as much as they did. Tula, Ole Henricksen and Sunday Riley were the three brands I looked at the most.
- Decide what you are looking to improve. My issues when I started looking were I felt my skin was very dry, looked dull and my under eye circles were getting darker. After doing some research it seemed like products that promised to be brightening would be the best option for me. This helped narrow things down even more.
- Find a skincare set. I mentioned above that I lack a lot of knowledge around skincare products so I thought a prepackaged set would be foolproof for me because I’d already know they all worked together. A set is also a good way to test out new products because they usually aren’t full size and it’s cheaper. It’s never fun to spend the money on full size products only to find out after a few uses you don’t like them.
After all of that, I ended up choosing the Ole Henricksen Let’s Get Luminous Set pictured above. It has a face serum, moisturizer and under eye cream that I use in that order. I feel like it’s definitely brightened my skin and my skin is a lot less dry as well. I use all three products in the morning and on days I put on makeup afterwards it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing so many products. Each of the products is so light and absorbs really well. I also still have plenty of product left even though they were a smaller size since they came in the set. I plan to purchase full sizes of each once they run out.
