Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Top Pics

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or just been off social media the past few days you probably know that the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is kicking off soon, depending one when you have access. I’ve shopped the sale in the past but to be honest, generally only by 1-2 items, I don’t do any sort of a big haul. This year I am posting simply what has caught my eye. In terms of what I’m buying, I know for sure I’m purchasing one of the items for my daughter’s birthday, but the rest…not sure yet. I enjoy looking at sales and seeing how low of a price I can get something for, so it’s fun for me to go through sales like this. Most of the time though, I just end up filling up my cart and stopping there. 🙂

My advice?

Stick to brands you know and are more on the high quality side. Unless I’m familiar with a brand or know the quality of it, I don’t usually try anything new during these type of sales.

Compare sale and after sale prices and calculate what you are truly saving. For some items, it’s less than $10.

Do your research. Check around before you buy to see if you can find the same item at a different store for a lower cost.

Skin Care For Newbies

This post contains affiliate links. I may earn a small commission if you purchase items through these links.

I’ve mentioned before that I love makeup but I’m not the best at taking care of my skin. I try a lot of products but don’t seem to stick with anything. Part of the problem is not knowing enough about skincare products to know what they do (or are supposed to do!). With makeup you instantly know if a color is going to work, or if a product will last all day. With skincare do you ever know if it’s really working? In the beginning of the year my skin was super dry and dull and while I thought it could be pregnancy or the winter months, I also felt it might be my skin changing as I got older. I’ve really been interested in finding a skincare routine and finally felt the push to start doing some research.

Favorite Sunglasses – Summer 2020

L to R: Ray-Ban Tortoise Shell Aviator (similar), Blenders High Class Jes, Ray-Ban Clubmaster, Amazon Square Cateye

With Memorial Day yesterday we’ve officially kicked off summer! Even though this year things may look different, everyone still needs a great pair of sunglasses. For the longest time I hardly wore sunglasses but over the last few years it feels like my eyes have gotten more sensitive so I wear them all the time now. Just another perk of getting older. 🙂

Above I’ve linked a variety of styles and price points. These are all sunglasses I personally own and wear, perfect for walks with the family, days at the pool or beach or whatever you’re up to! Ray-ban is my personal favorite but I also like the lower cost options when I’m with my kids – you never know when someone is going to sit on a pair or want to try them on to be like Mommy!

Working From Home During a Pandemic

Not too long ago, a little over a month ago let’s say, I used to love working from home. I have a traditional corporate job and would spend four days in the office and work from home one day a week. I would drop the kids at daycare, pick myself up a coffee and knock out a bunch of work the rest of the morning. At lunchtime I’d go for a run or do an at home workout and take my one uninterrupted shower of the week. I’d finish working in the afternoon and spend the time my commute normally would take me picking up the house. The house was silent the entire day and it was glorious. Fast forward to the recent weeks where I am working from home full time and caring for children full time. It’s hard AF. I’m here to share some tips that I’ve learned these past few weeks as it looks like there may be quite a number more that we will continue in this way. I am by no means “winning” at this – just surviving…which leads me into my first tip.

Eye Shadow Palette Review

To know me is to know that I love an eyeshadow palette. They are my favorite beauty purchase and I have too many to count. I love trying different brands and while I tend to stay in the neutral category the options are endless. Here are four recent purchases all at varying price points and my thoughts on each. I’m no beauty blogger just a mom trying to look put together with limited time!

Best Heart Shaped Pizzas Near Chicago

True story – I never liked Valentine’s Day before kids. Even when I had a significant other it just felt like a lot of pressure for a made up holiday. Now that I have kids all that’s changed and I fully embrace it for them. We celebrate as a family and what better way then a heart shaped pizza! Here are my top three choices near or in Chicago!

  • Barnaby’s – 636 E. Touhy, Des Plaines, IL They may not have a website but this place is a Des Plaines landmark. Growing up this was basically the only restaurant my parents would take us out to. They’ve had heart shaped pizzas for Valentine’s as long as I can remember and I love their thin crust pizza. Barnaby’s is nothing fancy – you order at the front and wait for your number to be called – but it’s kid friendly, delicious and reminds me of my childhood.
  • Lou Malnati’s – If you don’t want to wait until Valentine’s Day or you can’t make it that day, Lou’s is serving up heart shaped pizzas now until Sunday, February 16. They also have a frozen option you can cook at home or ship to someone special. I can’t and won’t describe the pizza to you because I wouldn’t do it justice. If you’ve never had it, it’s time, heart shaped or not. You’ll thank me later.
  • Dino’s Pizza – 7004 W. Higgins, Chicago, IL Another gem without a website, Dino’s is a Northside neighborhood pizza place making thin crust pizza that is worth any drive. Dino’s is the first place we ordered from when we moved into our house six years ago.

These are some of my favorites, I’d love to find more! Drop a comment and let me know if I’ve missed any! Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Peloton Digital App

Alright now before you dismiss what I’m about to say, hear me out. For almost two years I went to Orange Theory pretty regularly. To be honest, I absolutely loved it. I felt it was a full body workout in an hour that left me feeling strong and like I had accomplished something. For those that don’t know it’s a combination of cardio (treadmill & row machine) and strength (weights). The hardest part of the whole program for me though was fitting it into my schedule. Classes are at specific times and at my location were full…a lot. When I started doing fertility treatments this also complicated things because I couldn’t go for periods of time and I still had to keep up my membership. Then I found the peloton app.

DIY Gel Manicure

First gel manicure I gave myself!

I really love having my nails done but struggle with the cost. A gel manicure costs at least $30+ and that definitely adds up if you get them regularly. I’ve tried doing my own nails at home but I either smudge them before they dry or the regular polish chips within a day. Earlier in the month I started looking into at home gel manicure kits and here’s what I’ve found…

Valentine’s Finds

There’s something about having kids and wanting to celebrate every single holiday to the fullest. No matter what it is I want the holiday shirts, let’s get a festive wreath for the door and do some crafts. While I never liked Valentine’s Day before kids, now it’s just like any other “holiday” we celebrate. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Valentine’s Day finds to get you and your little ones in the spirit!
